Is Etsy Plus Worth It? The Real Cost After Credits
There’s a $10 charge on your Etsy statement every month, and you’re wondering if it’s earning its keep. Or you’re about to click “Upgrade” and want to know what you’re actually buying.
Here’s the short answer. Etsy Plus always costs $10 a month. It gives you up to $8 in credits, so if you’d spend that money on listing fees and Etsy Ads anyway, your effective cost drops to about $2. If you wouldn’t, Plus costs you close to the full $10. A perk many comparisons overlook can tip the balance: unlimited keyword searches in Etsy’s own research tool.
Prices and features last verified against Etsy’s help pages on October 24, 2026.

What do you get with Etsy Plus?
According to Etsy’s Etsy Plus help page, the subscription includes:
- 15 listing credits a month. Each covers one $0.20 fee for creating or renewing a listing.
- $5 in Etsy Ads credit a month, for Etsy’s on-site ads.
- Restock requests. Shoppers can ask to be alerted when a sold-out item is back.
- More shop customization. You get extra banner options, layouts for featured listings, the ability to feature specific listings or sections, and a custom color theme for your Shop Home.
- Unlimited Marketplace Insights searches. This is Etsy’s own keyword tool, built on real Etsy search data.
Credits don’t roll over. Anything you don’t use in a month is gone. You can cancel anytime and keep Plus until the end of the cycle you’ve paid for.
Does Etsy Plus lower your selling fees?
No. Plus doesn’t change any fee you pay on a sale:
- The 6.5% transaction fee stays the same.
- Payment processing stays the same: 3% + $0.25 for US shops, with different rates in other countries (see Etsy’s Fees & Payments Policy).
- Offsite Ads fees stay the same.
Etsy also doesn’t say Plus helps your listings rank higher in search.
If fees are your real problem, Plus isn’t the fix. Our Etsy fee calculator shows what you keep on any sale. The bigger levers are usually Offsite Ads and where you sell.
How much does Etsy Plus really cost after credits?
You always pay $10. The credits are worth at most $8 ($3 in listings + $5 in ads). So the lowest your effective cost can go is $2 a month. Credits alone never make Plus free.
The word that matters is effective. A credit only saves you money if it replaces something you’d have paid for anyway:
- Listing credits count as savings if you’d have paid those $0.20 listing or renewal fees anyway.
- The $5 ads credit only saves you money if you would have spent that amount on Etsy Ads anyway. If you don’t run ads, the unused credit doesn’t reduce your subscription’s effective cost.
Here’s how that plays out:
| Your shop each month | Credits that replace real spending | Effective cost |
|---|---|---|
| 3 new listings, no ads | $0.60 | $9.40 |
| 15 listings or renewals, no ads | $3.00 | $7.00 |
| 5 listings, and you’d spend $5+ on Etsy Ads anyway | $6.00 | $4.00 |
| 15 listings or renewals, and you’d spend $5+ on Etsy Ads anyway | $8.00 | $2.00 |

How renewals use credits: listings expire after four months and cost $0.20 to renew when auto-renewal is on. If a customer buys part of a multi-quantity listing and some stock remains, the listing renews automatically for another $0.20. If they buy more than one in the same order, Etsy charges $0.20 for each extra item (see Etsy’s fees for multiple quantities). These charges can use your listing credits even when you aren’t adding new products.
Is unlimited Marketplace Insights worth paying for?
Marketplace Insights is Etsy’s keyword research tool. It shows how often buyers searched a term and how many listings compete for it over the last 30 days, plus related terms and trending searches. Every seller gets 15 searches a week for free. Plus subscribers get unlimited searches.
What Plus doesn’t give you is more data. You see the same kind of results, just without the weekly cap. Etsy says Plus subscribers will get “more exclusive features in the future,” but that’s not available today.
Third-party Etsy SEO tools work differently. eRank, for example, offers a free plan with 5 keyword lookups a day, and paid plans from $5.99 a month (Basic) and $9.99 (Pro). Those plans also include things Etsy’s tool doesn’t, like competitor tracking and listing audits.
Compare the tools based on the features you actually use, not just their monthly prices. Etsy Plus makes more sense as a keyword research alternative if Marketplace Insights meets your needs and you can stop paying for a separate tool.
Should you get Etsy Plus? A quick decision rule
Add up three numbers for a typical month:
- Listing and renewal fees you’d pay anyway, up to $3
- Etsy Ads spending you’d do anyway, up to $5
- A keyword tool you could cancel, if Marketplace Insights meets your needs, or $0 if 15 free searches a week are enough
Count listing and ad credits only when they replace spending you’d make anyway. Add a keyword tool’s cost only if Marketplace Insights can replace it completely. If the value you’ll actually use is well below $10 a month, Etsy Plus probably isn’t worth it yet.
Restock requests and shop customization can tip a close call, especially if your items often sell out. But they’re hard to put a number on, so don’t buy Plus for them alone.
Example: you renew about 12 listings a month ($2.40), spend $10 a month on Etsy Ads (so the $5 credit is real savings), and pay $5.99 for a keyword tool you only use for keyword research, so Marketplace Insights can fully replace it and you can cancel it. That’s $13.39 of value for $10, so Plus is worth it.
Another example: a new shop with a few listings, no ads and light keyword research gets maybe $1 of value. That’s not worth $10 a month yet. Revisit Plus once you’re listing regularly or running ads.
Not sure? Try one month. Use every credit, run your keyword research, then cancel if it didn’t add up. Your access lasts until the end of the cycle.
How do you sign up for or cancel Etsy Plus?
To sign up, go to Shop Manager → Settings → Your subscription, then select Upgrade under Etsy Plus and confirm. The $10 is taken from your Etsy payment account balance each month.
To cancel, go to the same Your subscription page. You keep Plus until the end of your current cycle, and your last day is shown there. After that, your shop goes back to Etsy Standard and the charge stops.
Etsy Plus questions
Why is Etsy charging me $10 a month?
That’s almost always an Etsy Plus subscription. It’s $10 USD a month, taken from your payment account balance. You can check or cancel it under Shop Manager → Settings → Your subscription.
How much does Etsy Plus cost per year?
$120 if you keep it all year. The effective yearly cost can drop to about $24, but only if you use every credit every month and those credits replace money you’d have spent anyway.
What’s the difference between Etsy Standard and Etsy Plus?
Standard is the free plan every shop starts on. Plus adds monthly listing and ads credits, restock requests, extra shop customization and unlimited Marketplace Insights searches. Selling fees are the same on both.
Can I cancel Etsy Plus anytime?
Yes. Cancel from Your subscription in Shop Manager. You keep Plus until the end of the current cycle, then your shop returns to Etsy Standard.
Do Etsy Plus credits roll over?
No. Listing and ads credits reset at the start of each monthly cycle, and unused credits expire.
Do Etsy Plus listing credits cover renewals?
Yes. Etsy says the 15 credits can be used for creating or renewing listings, including automatic renewals.
How many Marketplace Insights searches do you get without Etsy Plus?
15 keyword searches a week. Etsy Plus subscribers get unlimited searches.
Is Etsy Plus worth it for new sellers?
Usually not yet. Use the decision rule above. If your listing fees, ad spending and keyword needs add up to well under $10, wait until your shop is busier.
Does Etsy Plus help your shop rank higher?
Etsy doesn’t say it does. Plus shops and Standard shops compete on the same terms in search.
Does Etsy Plus lower Etsy’s fees?
No. Transaction, payment processing and Offsite Ads fees are the same on both plans.
