How Much Does Etsy Take Per Sale? (2026 Fees on Real Examples)
Etsy takes about 9.5% of each sale, plus 45 cents in fixed fees. That’s for a typical US seller using Etsy Payments, with no ads involved. On a $25 item with free shipping and no sales tax, that comes to $2.83. If the sale came through one of Etsy’s Offsite Ads, the cut can climb to around 25%.
So how much does Etsy take per sale on your own orders? The 9.5% is made of three fees that apply to every order: a listing fee, a transaction fee and a payment processing fee. A fourth fee, Offsite Ads, only shows up on some sales. Your exact total also depends on what you charge for shipping and the buyer’s sales tax, which is why the examples below show the math step by step.
Last verified: October 27, 2026, against Etsy’s Fees & Payments Policy and Etsy Help pages.
The fees Etsy takes on every sale
1. Listing fee: $0.20. You pay 20 cents to publish a listing, whether it sells or not. A listing lasts four months. If auto-renew is on, it renews for another 20 cents when it expires. If you list several units of the same item, the listing renews, and costs another 20 cents, each time one of them sells.
2. Transaction fee: 6.5%. This is Etsy’s main cut. It’s charged on your item price plus whatever the buyer pays for shipping and gift wrap. For US sellers, sales tax isn’t included. So on a $25 item with $5 shipping, the fee is 6.5% × $30 = $1.95.
3. Payment processing fee: 3% + $0.25. This covers the card payment. In the US, it’s charged on the full order total, including shipping and sales tax, according to Etsy’s payment processing fee table. That’s the detail most sellers miss: you pay processing on tax money you never get to keep. Rates differ in other countries, so check the table if your bank account isn’t in the US.
4. Offsite Ads fee: 15% or 12% (only on some sales). Etsy advertises listings on places like Google and social media. If a buyer clicks one of those ads and buys from your shop within 30 days, Etsy charges this extra fee on the order:
- 15% if your shop made less than $10,000 on Etsy in the past 365 days. You can opt out.
- 12% if you made $10,000 or more. You can’t opt out.
- Either way, it’s capped at $100 per order.
We ran the numbers on this in are Etsy Offsite Ads worth it.
Add up the first three and you get the everyday formula: 6.5% + 3% = 9.5%, plus $0.20 + $0.25 = $0.45. Treat it as a starting point. Shipping and tax nudge the real number up a little, as you’ll see next.
A real example: what Etsy takes from a $25 sale
Say you sell a $25 print and charge $5 for shipping. The buyer’s state adds $2.10 in sales tax, so the buyer pays $32.10 in total.
| Fee | How it’s worked out | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | flat | $0.20 |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% × $30 (item + shipping) | $1.95 |
| Processing fee | 3% × $32.10 (including tax) + $0.25 | $1.21 |
| Total Etsy fees | $3.36 |
The $2.10 tax goes to the state, so you collect $30 from the sale. After Etsy’s $3.36, you have $26.64 left.
That $26.64 isn’t profit yet. Your product cost, packaging, the shipping label you actually pay for, and any ads still have to come out of it.
On this order, Etsy kept about 11.2% of the $30. That’s above the headline 9.5% because of the fixed 45 cents and the processing fee on tax.

Why cheap items lose a bigger share
Because 45 cents of Etsy’s fees are fixed, the percentage Etsy takes is much bigger on low-priced items. Here’s one item with free shipping and no tax:
| Item price | Etsy fees | Share Etsy takes |
|---|---|---|
| $10 | $1.40 | 14.0% |
| $25 | $2.83 | 11.3% |
| $50 | $5.20 | 10.4% |
| $100 | $9.95 | 9.95% |
The lesson isn’t “raise every price”. It’s to know your margin on each product. Below about $15, those fixed fees start to hurt, which is why many sellers bundle small items or sell them as multipacks.

How much does Etsy take from a $100 sale?
On a $100 item with free shipping, no tax and no ads, Etsy takes $9.95:
- Listing fee: $0.20
- Transaction fee: $6.50
- Processing fee: $3.25
That leaves you $90.05 before your own costs.
If the same sale came through an Offsite Ad, the picture changes:
- At 15%: Etsy takes $24.95 in total, and you’re left with $75.05.
- At 12%: Etsy takes $21.95 in total, and you’re left with $78.05.
So one ad-driven sale can cost you more than twice the normal fees.
Other charges that can add up
Beyond the per-sale fees, a few other costs can show up in your Etsy account:
- Currency conversion: 2.5%. If you list in a different currency from your payment account, Etsy charges 2.5% to convert the sale. Listing in your own currency avoids it.
- Renewals. Auto-renewing listings and multi-quantity listings add 20 cents each time they renew.
- Etsy Ads. These are separate from Offsite Ads. You set a daily budget and pay for the advertising whether or not each click turns into a sale.
- Etsy Plus: $10 a month. This is an optional subscription with listing and ad credits. We worked out when it pays for itself in is Etsy Plus worth it.
- A one-time set-up fee. Etsy says new shops may have to pay one when opening. If it applies to you, it’s shown during setup.
- Regulatory operating fees. Sellers in some countries outside the US pay an extra percentage. US sellers don’t, but check Etsy’s fees and taxes page if you sell from elsewhere.
How to keep more of each sale?
You can’t avoid Etsy’s core fees, but you can control the extras.
Use Share & Save. When a buyer orders within 30 days of clicking a link you shared outside Etsy, like your Instagram bio or email newsletter, Etsy refunds 4% of the order, according to its Share & Save page. Links in Etsy messages or your listing descriptions don’t count.
There’s a holiday bonus too. From October 20, 2026 to January 4, 2027, the refund rises to 6.5% on qualifying orders. That’s enough to cancel out the whole transaction fee. The catch: under Etsy’s promotion terms, it only applies to sellers who received an invitation from Etsy for this promotion and stay enrolled in Share & Save. The 6.5% replaces the usual 4%; you don’t get both. Check your Shop Manager or email to see if you were invited.
Price small items with care. Bundles and multipacks spread the fixed 45 cents over a bigger order.
Remember the fees on shipping. Etsy takes 6.5% of the shipping you charge, and processing applies to the shipping too. Price shipping to cover the label and the fees, not just the label.
Review Offsite Ads. If you’re under $10,000 a year, you can opt out. Compare the extra sales against the 15% before deciding.
List in your own currency to skip the 2.5% conversion fee.
And if you’re weighing up other platforms, we compared the fees side by side in selling on Etsy vs eBay and Etsy vs Shopify.
Etsy fees FAQs
What percentage does Etsy take per sale?
For US sellers using Etsy Payments, it’s about 9.5%: a 6.5% transaction fee plus 3% for processing. On top of that come fixed fees of $0.45: $0.20 to list and $0.25 for processing. If the sale came from an Offsite Ad, add another 12% or 15%.
Does Etsy take a cut of shipping?
Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee applies to the shipping price you charge, and the processing fee applies to the whole order, shipping included. If you offer free shipping, the fees fall on your item price only.
Does Etsy charge a monthly fee?
Not on the standard plan. You pay per listing and per sale. The only monthly fee is Etsy Plus, which is optional and costs $10 a month.
Why is Etsy charging me $10 a month?
The most likely reason is an Etsy Plus subscription, which costs exactly $10 a month. You can see your subscriptions, and cancel them, in Shop Manager settings.
Why is Etsy charging me when I haven’t sold anything?
The usual reasons are listing fees (including auto-renewals), Etsy Ads spending, an Etsy Plus subscription, or a one-time shop set-up fee. Your Payment account in Shop Manager shows every charge line by line.
Are your first 40 Etsy listings free?
Not automatically. New sellers can get free listing credits by opening their shop through another seller’s referral link, but Etsy says “the number of credits available may vary depending on the current promotion.” Check what the offer says when you sign up.
What are Etsy Offsite Ads fees?
15% of the order total if your shop made under $10,000 on Etsy in the past 365 days, or 12% if you made more. It’s capped at $100 per order and only charged when a sale comes from one of these ads.
Is it still worth selling on Etsy with these fees?
It depends on your margins more than on the fees. About 9.5% plus $0.45 is moderate for a marketplace, but on cheap items or ad-driven sales it adds up fast. Work out what’s left after Etsy fees and your own costs, using the Etsy fee calculator, before you price a product.
How we calculated this: All examples use Etsy’s published US rates: a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping, and a 3% + $0.25 processing fee on the order total including tax. Amounts are rounded to the nearest cent. Fees and promotions can change, so check Etsy’s official policies for your shop. More on our method: How We Calculate.
