TikTok Shop vs Amazon: Which Leaves Sellers More Money? (2026)
Same $25 phone stand. Two places to sell it. Which one leaves more money in your pocket?
The short answer: TikTok Shop takes a 6% referral fee on most US orders. Amazon takes 15% in most categories, plus either $0.99 per item sold or $39.99 a month for a Professional plan. On selling fees alone, TikTok Shop is cheaper. But once you pay a creator more than about 9% commission, Amazon can leave you more on the same product. So the real answer depends on how your sales happen.
Last verified: October 27, 2026, against Amazon’s seller pricing page, TikTok Shop’s US referral fee page and its FBT rate card. US marketplace only.
TikTok Shop vs Amazon fees at a glance
| Fee | TikTok Shop | Amazon |
|---|---|---|
| Selling plan | None, free to open | $0.99 per item, or $39.99 a month |
| Referral fee, most categories | 6% | 15%, with a $0.30 minimum per item |
| Card processing | Included in the 6% | Included in the referral fee |
| Creator fees | Optional; you set the rate, often 10–20% | Not a standard selling fee |
| Platform fulfillment | FBT: $4.28 for one item of 4 oz or less | FBA: priced by size and weight |
| Storage | Free for the first 60 days with FBT | Monthly fees with FBA, higher in October–December |
The rates that change by category:
- Amazon: beauty and baby products pay 8% at $10 or less and 15% above. Computers and consumer electronics pay 8%. Clothing pays 5%, 10% or 17% over $20. Check your category on Amazon’s pricing page.
- TikTok: almost everything is 6%. Some jewelry and all pre-owned items are 5%.
- Both platforms charge their fee on any shipping the buyer pays.
TikTok’s referral fee policy says its fee “encompasses all TikTok Shop fees” apart from shipping and tax. So there’s no monthly plan or separate processing charge on top.
The same $25 product on both platforms
Here’s one product sold once on each platform:
- It sells for $25 and costs you $8.
- You ship it yourself for $4, and the buyer pays no shipping.
- On Amazon, it’s in a 15% category, like Home & Kitchen.
| Amazon | TikTok | TikTok + 10% creator | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | $25.00 | $25.00 | $25.00 |
| Fee | −$3.75 | −$1.50 | −$1.50 |
| Creator | — | — | −$2.50 |
| Costs | −$12 | −$12 | −$12 |
| Profit | $9.25 | $11.50 | $9.00 |
The fee rows are Amazon’s 15% and TikTok’s 6% referral fee, and “Costs” is the $8 product plus $4 shipping. The profit is before other costs that this example leaves out on purpose: platform fulfillment, storage, ads, returns and Amazon’s plan fee. That keeps the comparison focused on the selling fees.
What this shows:
- Selling from your own TikTok videos, you keep $2.25 more per order than on Amazon.
- With a creator at 10%, Amazon edges ahead, $9.25 against $9.00.
- The break-even point is a 9% creator commission. That’s the gap between Amazon’s 15% and TikTok’s 6%. Below 9%, TikTok wins on fees. Above it, Amazon does.
- Amazon’s plan fee comes on top. The $39.99 Professional plan works out to about $1 per order at 40 orders a month. On the Individual plan it’s $0.99 per sale.
The 9% break-even holds when both platforms charge their fee on the same price. It moves if your Amazon category has a different rate or the buyer pays shipping, so run your own numbers. Try the TikTok Shop fee calculator, then compare with Amazon’s Revenue Calculator.

Fulfillment: FBT vs FBA
Both platforms will store, pack and ship for you once you send them stock. The fees work differently.
Fulfilled by TikTok (FBT) charges per unit by weight and by how many units are in the order:
- One item of 4 oz or less costs $4.28.
- Orders with 4 or more units drop to $1.56 per unit.
- Storage is free for the first 60 days.
These figures come from TikTok’s FBT rate card. Its latest update, effective November 1, 2026, only lowers fees for items over 70 lb, so these small-item rates stay the same. Our TikTok FBT guide lists every weight tier.
Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) also charges per unit, based on your product’s size, weight and price, and adds monthly storage fees that rise in October–December. Amazon publishes its full rate card inside Seller Central, so the most reliable way to get your exact fee is its Revenue Calculator.
To compare them fairly:
- Use the same product size and weight in both tools.
- Compare storage over the same period. FBT’s 60 free days help with slow sellers.
- Add inbound shipping to the warehouse and any prep or labeling you pay for.
- Check multi-unit orders separately, because FBT’s per-unit price drops sharply for bundles.
When TikTok Shop wins
- You sell from your own videos or LIVEs. With no creator commission, 6% is hard to beat.
- Your product looks great on camera. Gadgets, beauty and kitchen tools often sell through video rather than search.
- You’re testing a new product. There’s no monthly plan, and FBT gives you 60 days of free storage.
- You sell in one of Amazon’s higher-fee categories, like clothing over $20 at 17%.
It’s not automatic, though. Discounts, returns and creator payouts can eat the fee advantage quickly.
When Amazon wins
- Shoppers already search for your product. Amazon buyers arrive ready to buy, while TikTok buyers have to discover you first.
- Your product needs a high creator commission to sell on TikTok. At 15–20% commission, Amazon’s 15% fee usually leaves you more.
- You sell low-priced beauty or baby items. Amazon’s 8% rate at $10 or less almost closes the gap with TikTok’s 6%.
- You want more predictable sales. Search demand is usually steadier than video-driven spikes.
Amazon isn’t cheap either. Thin-margin products with high fulfillment and storage costs can struggle there.
Payouts: how fast do you get paid?
TikTok Shop pays per order, 1 to 31 days after delivery, depending on your shop’s settlement tier. New shops start in the slowest tier, 31 days. Strong, established shops can be paid the next day. Our TikTok Shop payout schedule explains every tier.
Amazon pays out on its own disbursement schedule, and it can hold funds until after an order is delivered. Your exact timing shows in the Payments dashboard in Seller Central.
Either way, plan for a gap of a few weeks between paying for stock and getting paid, especially as a new seller.
Should you sell on both?
Many sellers do, because the two platforms play different roles:
- Amazon catches shoppers who are already searching.
- TikTok Shop creates demand through videos, LIVEs and creators.
Just work out your margin separately for each platform. A price that works at TikTok’s 6% might not work at Amazon’s 15%, and the reverse once creators are involved. Keep your inventory in sync too, so you don’t sell stock you no longer have.

TikTok Shop vs Amazon FAQs
Is TikTok Shop cheaper than Amazon for sellers?
On selling fees, usually yes: 6% on TikTok against 15% in most Amazon categories, and TikTok has no monthly plan. But if you pay creators more than about 9% commission, your total cost on TikTok can end up higher.
What creator commission makes TikTok Shop less profitable than Amazon?
In our $25 example, it’s 9%, the gap between Amazon’s 15% referral fee and TikTok’s 6%. That excludes fulfillment, storage, ads, returns and plan fees, so your own break-even point may be different.
How much does it cost to start a TikTok Shop vs Amazon?
A TikTok Shop is free to open. Amazon costs $0.99 per item sold on the Individual plan, or $39.99 a month on the Professional plan, plus the referral fee on each sale.
TikTok Shop vs Amazon FBA: which fulfillment is cheaper?
There’s no single winner. TikTok’s FBT costs $4.28 for one small item, drops to $1.56 per unit on orders of 4 or more, and includes 60 days of free storage. Amazon’s FBA fee depends on your product’s size, weight and price. Check it in Amazon’s Revenue Calculator and compare.
Is TikTok Shop or Amazon better for beginners?
TikTok Shop is cheaper to start, with no monthly plan, and suits sellers who can make product videos. Amazon suits products people already search for, but costs more per sale.
Why are products on TikTok Shop often cheaper?
Partly because TikTok funds some discounts and coupons itself, partly because many sellers price for impulse buys from videos, and partly because the lower 6% fee leaves room for lower prices. A low price doesn’t always mean the seller earns less. It depends on their costs.
Can you sell on TikTok Shop and Amazon at the same time?
Yes. Many sellers list the same products on both. Calculate profit separately for each one, keep inventory in sync, and follow each platform’s rules.
